Welcome
In addition to pet photography, I also wanted to include a sort of blog and personal interest of mine. My goal is to help inform the everyday dog owner. The active page is intended to be used as a resource and guide for understanding, training, and loving your dog companions. I aim to garner my own favorite videos, articles, and experiences to provide a friendly and accessible library for dog owners - specifically in a rural setting. I also hope to generate conversation surrounding certain topics such as enrichment, play, and bond building.
“Be the person your dog thinks you are.”
The most important thing you can learn about me and my journey to creating this website is that I give all credit to my dog, Sitka. Sitka came into my life shortly after I lost my maternal grandma. He was a much needed redirection of my grief and my summer was spent learning patience, how to be kind to myself and keeping myself grounded in the little moments.
When I had to leave for college, I felt like I was leaving behind a piece of me I had only just discovered. Each trip home was like a brief reconnection I was worried I had lost with him. He was still so young and I worried that we would fail to bond the longer I was away. When I had the chance to take him to school with me as an Emotional Support Animal, I was thrilled to finally have him in my every day life again. With the extra time I had between work, school and volunteering, I was determined to teach Sitka some tricks. From then on, I dedicated all of my free time to training. By the time I graduated, I had no idea what summer would bring.
We went on to set goals for registering with the AKC Canine Partners (for mixed breeds), and trick titling. By Sitka's second birthday, he had three titles under his belt, including Novice, Intermediate and Advanced. In addition, I had started a hobby of photography, rekindled from years of yearbook in high school. I use Instagram to showcase Sitka and won five premiums for photography at our local county fair.
Now, I want to add to my dog experience so far by sharing my own stories both of success - and failures - so that I can relate to and help others who want to do everything they can for their canine companions. While this is mostly generated towards a rural audience due to the lack of resources available, it can be applied to anyone who has a dog in their life.
I look forward to sharing all I have learned so far with you! Find us on Facebook, where I will share these resources and stories. And remember, walk lightly and carry many treats!
